Three cheers for the citizens of Harvard. First for the voters, 74 percent of whom voted in this year’s elections, casting ballots early, in absentia, or in the Bromfield gym, despite bad weather and film-delayed travel through town. Their commitment pushed turnout well above the 68 percent of the 2014 midterms.
Second, a cheer for the Select Board candidates, Noyan Kinayman and Rich Maiore, who stepped up to campaign for the seat left empty by former selectman Ken Swanton’s July resignation. It’s a demanding job, and we wish the winner well.
Finally, a loud cheer and round of applause for Town Clerk Marlene Kenney and her team of election officials, who kept lines moving in spite of delays at the voting machine and then worked far into the night to make sure every vote counted.
Harvard residents are known for taking their citizenship seriously, and they proved their commitment once again on Election Day, Nov. 6, 2018.
