Halloween party
At noon on Tuesday, Oct. 30, come to a ghoulish luncheon party with a menu appropriate for the ghosts and goblins that invade our buildings this time of year. Wear your favorite costume. Space is limited. Sign up by Oct. 23.
Fuel assistance starts November 1
The heating season is here, and applications for fuel assistance can be made starting Nov. 1. The state gross annual income limits for fuel assistance are:
- $35,510 for a household of one.
- $46,437 for a household of two.
In addition, Harvard offers a Harvard Energy Assistance Team (HEAT) program that begins Nov. 1. If you are concerned about paying your heating bill, let COA know.
SHINE offers advice on health insurance plan options
For seniors with a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan or a Medicare Advantage Plan (HMO or PPO), open enrollment is in effect through Dec. 7. This is the time to review current plans and the chance to change plans. All those enrolled in Medicare should have received notification by mail of current plan changes. The Minuteman Senior Services SHINE program explains health insurance options with free, confidential counseling on all aspects of Medicare and related health insurance programs.
On Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 10 a.m. a trained SHINE counselor will be at Hildreth House to answer questions. For more information call 888-222-6171.
Book Club: ‘Little Women’ (what else?)
On Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m. come to Hildreth House to discuss Louisa May Alcott’s “Little Women.” This adored classic of four devoted sisters, read by generations, was loosely based on Alcott’s own life.
Multi-Media art show and sale
The 4th annual Harvard Artisans Multi-Media Gallery Show and Sale will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, 7 to 10 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 18, noon to 4 p.m. at the Congregational Church. Proceeds from the event will benefit the COA. The one-of-a-kind works of art will feature glassware, fiber/textile designs, jewelry, pastel paintings, photography, pottery, quilting, weaving, woodworking, and more. The event will also include door prizes, music, hors d’oeuvres, homemade soups, a dessert buffet, and a silent auction.
