Police made three traffic stops this week that resulted in two verbal warnings and one citation. The ambulance crew responded to five medical emergencies and transported four people to the hospital, one with Advanced Life Support on board. Dispatch received two requests for cooking fires.
Police also want residents to know that Halloween candy donations are a bit lower than needed this year. The candy is collected for disbursement to town-center residents who participate in the town’s night of trick-or-treating Oct. 31. The candy collection box is in the lobby of the station, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Only unopened bags of candy are accepted.

Wednesday, Oct. 10
At 10:52 a.m. a resident called to report dump trucks from a construction project speeding up and down Oak Hill Road at 60 to 70 mph. An officer responded to the area where the speeding was reported and parked his cruiser there for about 25 minutes. No dump trucks were observed. A set of keys found at the Transfer Station was turned in to police at 11:19 a.m. The keys are still at the station awaiting their owner. At 3:48 p.m. a 911 caller from Great Elms on Stow Road reported that a neighbor had broken some of her property. Police responded and charged 25-year-old Shaunte Penn of Stow Road with wanton destruction of property in the amount of $1200. They also arrested 36-year-old Sabrina Balakin of Stow Road on an outstanding warrant. Later that night, at 8:09 p.m. a 911 caller requested a well-being check at an apartment at Great Elms. Police took 26-year-old Lamatu Sawadegod of Dracut, who had been visiting someone at Great Elms, into protective custody; Sawadegod found a ride home to Dracut.
Thursday, Oct. 11
A caller reported striking a deer at 6:43 a.m. on Ayer Road near Harvard Lanes. Police checked the area but found no sign of the deer. The caller did not report any damage to his car.
Friday, Oct. 12
Police came across a group of kids at McCurdy track at 10:54 p.m. The group was advised that they were trespassing after hours, and they left the area.
Saturday, Oct. 13
Police provided mutual aid to Bolton police with an incident involving a car that ran into a guardrail at Bolton Orchards on Main Street in Bolton at 11:40 p.m. The driver of the car attempted to run away on foot but was apprehended. Bolton police charged 61-year-old Edward Figueira of Chelmsford with operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, driving with a revoked license, malicious destruction of property, and indecent exposure.

Monday, Oct. 15
At 7:17 a.m. police arrested 38-year-old Sam Smith of Littleton County Road as a fugitive from justice on a court warrant. Smith had failed to appear for a court date.
