In the past week, the police made four traffic stops, giving the driver a verbal warning in each case. Officers also helped three motorists with disabled vehicles. The police and the ambulance squad responded to four medical emergencies and took four people to area hospitals, two with Advanced Life Support on board. The holiday weekend also brought three requests for cooking fires and one report of illegal burning, referred to the Fire Department.

Wednesday, Oct. 3
At 6:52 p.m. a car struck a deer on Ayer Road just north of Route 2, near the Dunkin’ Donuts. No one in the car was injured, but the vehicle was damaged. The badly hurt deer was put down by the responding officer. At 8:39 p.m. a South Shaker Road resident called to say someone was in her backyard, but the person was gone when police arrived.

Friday, Oct. 5
Police responded to a call from a senior citizen on East Bare Hill Road at 2:49 p.m. Some merchandise she had not ordered had been delivered to her home, and police suspected a scam. Working together, the police and the Council on Aging made sure she was not billed for the unwanted item. At 6:09 p.m. a 911 caller reported an accident with injuries on Route 2 westbound. Harvard’s Fire Department and ambulance squad both responded, with the ambulance taking the injured person to Nashoba Valley Medical Center. State police dealt with the accident scene.
Saturday, Oct. 6
A Fairbank Street resident, accidentally locked out of the house, called police at 12:04 a.m. Police gained access through a window and let the resident in. Beginning around 10 a.m., police received a number of calls about inconveniently parked cars, especially on Massachusetts and Warren avenues, related to the Flea Market. At 11:15 a.m. someone called the police over concerns that kittens were being raffled off at a sale on Still River Road. At 5:23 p.m. a Still River Road resident called to report cars speeding in the area.
Sunday, Oct. 7
State police called Harvard at 7:28 a.m. to say that two men, one of whom appeared injured, were hitchhiking on Ayer Road near Route 2. Harvard police checked and found that the men’s car had broken down on Route 2 and they were getting help; neither was hurt. At 1:12 p.m. a Stow Road resident reported a check missing from the mail; police are investigating. And, in a case of vandalism, a Shaker Road resident notified police at 3:57 p.m. that her entire mailbox was missing.
Monday, Oct. 8
At 12:46 a.m. a Quarry Lane resident called police to report a “ding-dong ditcher”—someone who had rung the doorbell and run away. The investigating officer located the sleepover partiers who were responsible and advised them of the possible consequences, which could have included charges such as breach of the peace and disorderly conduct. At 10:23 a.m. police received a call about an accident with injuries on Route 2. Harvard police responded because state police were not in the immediate area. They found that the injured man had been hit by his own car, which had rolled over his leg and broken it while he was trying to remove a damaged muffler. The ambulance took him to the hospital. At 5:27 p.m. the burglar alarm at the Bromfield School went off, and police found two students had gone inside to play basketball while the school was officially closed. At 5:42 p.m. a resident called to report another attempted phone scam.
