Former selectman and chair of Harvard’s Municipal Affordable Housing Trust Leo Blair has declined his appointment as an alternate member of the Finance Committee.
“I was grateful that the moderator was willing to appoint me to the FinCom as an associate member, but upon reflection I determined that there might be some other more effective way that I could contribute to the town,” Blair wrote in an email to the Press.
Town Administrator Tim Bragan announced the news at last week’s meeting of the Select Board. Blair applied for a seat on the committee earlier this year and was among the two voting and two alternate members appointed by newly elected Moderator Bill Barton in July. Blair did not attend the first two fiscal 2019 meetings of the committee and later informed Barton he did not wish to serve. It is now up to Barton to choose another volunteer to fill the empty seat.
Anyone who wishes to apply for the open seat must complete a volunteer form and submit it to the Select Board office, Bragan said. No deadline has been set, but in an email to the Press, Barton said he hoped to have the opening filled “by the end of the month.”
