Police are once again taking part in the “Click It or Ticket” national campaign aimed at enforcing seat belt regulations. As a result, during this week, police made 51 traffic stops that resulted in 15 verbal warnings and 36 citations. They also assisted one motorist with a disabled vehicle. The ambulance crew responded to eight medical emergencies and took five people to the hospital, three with Advanced Life Support on board.
Mail theft update
Police report that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts will soon issue a federal indictment in the local mail theft incidents that took place in Harvard earlier this year. The case is under review this week, and the indictment is expected next week. Residents continue to report credit card fraud, but police assured the Press that there have been no recent credit card thefts, and they believe recent reports are likely the result of residents discovering fraudulent charges in older credit card statements. This week police received six additional credit card fraud reports and one stolen greeting card report related to the mail theft case. The greeting card was not recently stolen.
Tuesday, Aug. 21
At 5:44 a.m. police assisted the Department of Homeland Security in the arrest of 26-year-old Warren Anderson of Lowell. Anderson was staying with a relative in Harvard when he was arrested on charges of receipt and possession of child pornography. A resident reported a loose horse behind her house on Stow Road at 8:03 p.m. Animal control was notified, but police said the horse was on conservation land, and it soon left the area on its own.

A 911 call from an Old Mill Road residence at 6:54 a.m. resulted in the ambulance transporting one person to Nashoba Valley Medical Center.
Friday, Aug. 24
At 3:28 p.m. a caller complained about an unattended vehicle parked beside the road at the intersection of East Bare Hill and Brown roads. The vehicle was towed. Police received a 911 call at 6:11 p.m. reporting an accident near the Harvard exit on the westbound side of Route 2. Harvard fire and ambulance personnel responded, and the ambulance transported one person to Health Alliance Hospital Leominster. At 10:43 p.m. a caller reported striking an animal at the intersection of Ayer and Poor Farm roads. No further information was available.
Saturday, Aug. 25
At 5:19 a.m. an ambulance transported a Depot Road man to Health Alliance Hospital Leominster with Advanced Life Support on board, and at 8:55 a.m. a Trail Ridge Way resident was transported by ambulance to Emerson Hospital with Advanced Life Support on board. At 11:43 a.m. someone brought a man’s wedding band that had been found at McCurdy Track to the station. The ring is still at the station awaiting its owner. Two individuals with flashlights were reported at the Shaker burial ground at 10:41 p.m. Police located them and asked them to move along. A 911 call from a Prospect Hill Road residence at 11:28 p.m. resulted in an ambulance transporting one person to Nashoba Valley Medical Center with Advanced Life Support on board.
Sunday, Aug. 26
Police received a call from the Ayer police at 9:23 a.m. regarding a Toyota pickup truck that was driving erratically and was heading toward Harvard on Ayer Road. Police could not locate the vehicle. At 9:45 a.m. a dead deer was reported on the side of Ayer Road between Poor Farm Road and South Shaker Road. Police notified the Department of Public Works.
Monday, Aug. 27
A caller reported a maroon minivan speeding on Prospect Hill Road at 5:43 a.m. Police were unable to locate the vehicle. At 1:45 p.m. a resident called police to report an incident of identity theft that was unrelated to recent mail thefts. The woman told police someone had changed the address on her driver’s license in January and has since made multiple unsuccessful attempts to open credit cards using it. She wasn’t aware of the issue until she recently tried to renew her license. Police are investigating. At 6:58 p.m. a caller reported a 12-foot aluminum boat had been stolen from his Wilroy Avenue summer home on Bare Hill Pond. Police are investigating.
