Donate your surplus garden produce
If you have extra fruits or vegetables from your home garden or orchard, consider donating the surplus to the Harvard Farmers Market’s Farms to Friend program. The extra produce will be delivered to persons in our community who cannot afford to purchase local, healthy fruits and vegetables on their own. Bring your donations to the market tent at the Harvard Farmers Market any Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Deadline is Aug. 31 for absentee voting in state primary
Absentee ballots for the Sept. 4 state primary election are available in the town clerk’s office. Residents may vote in the clerk’s office or have the ballot mailed to them. Voters who will be out of town during polling hours on election day or who can’t vote in person due to physical disability or religious belief may request an absentee ballot by filling out an application. The deadline to apply is Friday, Aug. 31, at 5 p.m. The town clerk’s office will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day. If the ballot needs to be mailed, allow time for mail delivery. Ballots must be received by the town clerk before the close of the polls on Sept. 4. Ballots may not be hand carried out of the office.
Life support/CPR course offered
Always On Call Health Services® Inc. will offer the American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support/CPR for the Health Care Provider course Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 285 Central Street in Leominster. This course is geared for people who work within the health care field, day care providers, and nursing school students. Registration is required in advance at 978-537-9900 ext. 114.

Cultural Council now accepting grant applications
Each year the Harvard Cultural Council, which is part of a network of 329 local councils serving all cities and towns in Massachusetts, funds a wide variety of activities, including community gatherings, plays, festivals, arts and science education, and other projects focusing on local history, diversity, restoration, and preservation. Last year the council awarded $4,500, supporting 17 projects in and around Harvard.
Applications for the council’s 2019 grant cycle will be available online starting Saturday, Sept. 1. Additional details and forms can be accessed online at www.mass-culture.org/Harvard. Bookplates available at library
For all young Harvard readers who read more than 30 hours and earned a bookplate, come by the library Wednesday, Aug. 29 (the first day of school in Harvard) through Oct. 15 to choose the library book in which your bookplate will go. Please remember that you stopped counting your hours Aug. 16 at 9 p.m.
Meet the candidates for Mass. 3rd Congressional District
To help voters learn more about the candidates running in the Sept. 4 primary election for the Massachusetts 3rd Congressional District and to provide a nonpartisan forum for all candidates to be heard, the League of Women Voters of Chelmsford, with help from other local leagues, will hold a candidates forum Monday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. at Chelmsford High School, 200 Richardson Road in Chelmsford. The forum is free and open to the public. All candidates (10 Democrats and one Republican) whose names will appear on the ballot have been invited to participate.

There is still booth space available at the Oct. 6 Harvard Flea Market. Be part of one of Harvard’s signature events and sell some of those items that are just taking up space in your attic or basement. Proceeds benefit the Harvard Schools Trust and the League of Women Voters of Harvard.
