Harvard native, former longtime resident, town clerk, treasurer/tax collector

Helen Louise (St. John) Wood, 93, formerly of Harvard, died Tuesday morning Aug. 7, 2018, in the NHC Healthcare Center in Greenwood, South Carolina.
Helen was born in Harvard Aug. 28, 1924, one of 10 children of the late William and Marie (LaCompt) St. John. She attended public schools in Harvard and lived there for most of her life before moving to South Carolina in recent years.
She had served as the town clerk, tax collector, and treasurer for the town of Harvard for many years, prior to her retirement in 1984. She was a devoted member of St. Theresa, the Little Flower Parish, the Harvard Sportsmen’s Club, and the Sixty Plus Club, where she served as president. Helen was an avid reader, enjoyed her daily crosswords, and loved to garden. She also looked forward to her daily swim in her pool.
She leaves two daughters, Diane H. Green and her husband Lawrence of Abbeville, South Carolina, and Donna M. Fuller of Leominster; two sisters, Yvonne Hendrickson of New Hampshire and Pauline Savaria of Rhode Island; three grandchildren, John Fuller, Cynthia Carrero, and Cheryl Hadley; two great-grandchildren, Lilia Fuller and Hayley Fuller; and several nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Alfred St. John, William St. John Jr., and Paul St. John, as well as four sisters, Frances Wood, Elsie St. John, Marie Conroy, and Marcel Murphy.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Aug. 18, at 10 a.m. in St. Theresa, the Little Flower Church, 15 Still River Road, Harvard. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery in Harvard.
