During the week, police made four traffic stops that resulted in three verbal warnings and one citation or written warning. They also assisted four motorists with disabled vehicles and one lockout. The ambulance crew responded to four medical emergencies and took three people to the hospital, one with Advanced Life Support on board.
Tuesday, June 26
At 11:07 a.m. a Warren Avenue resident called to report a red, orange, and yellow kayak missing from her friend’s house. Police said it may have been the kayak reported found near Turner Lane a few days later on Nextdoor. A caller reported a tree down on Still River Road at 12:57 p.m. The DPW was notified and removed the tree. A Littleton County Road resident called at 1:43 p.m. about low-hanging wires between two poles. Verizon was notified.
Wednesday, June 27
At 8:56 a.m. police responded to a 911 call for a hit-and-run accident at Ayer Road and Old Mill Road. The caller said the other driver stopped, but didn’t have a valid driver’s license so he fled the scene, traveling north on Ayer Road. The caller was able to give police the vehicle’s plate number, and at 12:49 p.m., the driver was located at Caza Manor Motel in Ayer. Ayer police arrested Dustin Grammer of East Main Street in Ayer on an outstanding warrant from another state. Harvard police issued Grammer a summons for leaving the scene of property damage and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. At 1:20 p.m. a 911 caller reported a two-vehicle accident with injuries on Ayer Road. Police said the operator of the first vehicle tried to make a left turn from a driveway into the northbound lane of Ayer Road, but was struck by a vehicle traveling south on Ayer Road. The operator of the first vehicle was injured and taken by ambulance to Nashoba Valley Medical Center. She was cited for failure to yield to an oncoming vehicle while turning left. Three occupants in the second vehicle sustained minor injuries. An Eldridge Road resident called at 5:33 p.m. to report a stolen cell phone. Since the phone was stolen in Boston, police advised the caller to report it to the Boston police.
Thursday, June 28
At 2:38 p.m. an Old Mill Road resident called to report giving too much information to a phone scammer and said she had changed access to her bank account as a precaution. Police are investigating. A caller reported a dog on Littleton Road at 6:15 p.m. The responding officer could not get the dog off the road, so he took it to the police station and notified its owner. At 6:26 p.m. a car hit a deer on Ayer Road. The car sustained heavy front-end damage; the outcome for the deer was not known.
Friday, June 29
Another caller reported giving too much information to a phone scammer at 2:07 p.m. She told police she had notified her bank and cancelled her accounts. At 2:59 p.m. a caller reported that the snow fence at the overlook on Prospect Hill Road had been cut. Police logged the incident as vandalism. At 3:15 p.m. someone brought a camera tripod in to the station that was found at the overlook on Prospect Hill Road on June 18. It is still at the station waiting to be claimed. A three-car accident on Ayer Road at the corner of Poor Farm Road was reported at 3:38 p.m. One vehicle was cited for following too close, and one vehicle had to be towed. There were no injuries. Someone came to the station at 6:23 p.m. and said she thought her vehicle was struck while parked in the lot at Carlson Orchards on Oak Hill Road. She said the staff at Carlson’s told her that they use security cameras and might be able to supply her with information regarding the incident, which she said she would pass on to the police. Police have not yet received any information.
Saturday, June 30
At 9:48 p.m. a caller reported hearing a noise that sounded like someone walking in the common entry with the condominium next door, whose owner was not at home. Police checked the area and found all to be in order.
Sunday, July 1
An Ayer Road resident called at 3:11 a.m. to report an object in the sky, possibly a drone. An officer responded and said the object appeared to be a star. At 7:31 p.m. a Green Hill Road resident reported seeing a group of teens carrying numerous boxes onto nearby conservation land. The caller suspected the boxes contained alcohol. The responding officer located four adults carrying Mason jars filled with water from the Shaker spring, and cleared the call. A Craggs Road resident reported a large branch down in the road at 9:37 p.m. The DPW was notified to remove the branch.
Monday, July 2
At 4:51 p.m. a caller reported seeing multiple people jumping from the tank bridge over the Nashua River at the Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge. Police advised the jumpers to leave. At 8:31 p.m., while the fireworks festivities were underway at Fruitlands Museum on Prospect Hill Road, police had three vehicles that were illegally parked on Madigan Lane towed.
