The Bromfield Trojans defeated the Tyngsborough Tigers 5–1 Wednesday, May 16, at home.
The first three innings were scoreless, although both teams had players on base in the second and third innings.
In the fourth inning, Tyngsborough put a man on third, but the third out prevented him from running home. This inning, however, was the turning point for Bromfield. Junior Lance Jarosz began by hitting a single and stealing second base. Jarosz went home on junior Alex Magan’s single for the first run of the game. Next up to bat was junior Andrew Hill, who hit a double and sent Magan to second. Then, both Hill and Magan stole a base, putting them on second and third, respectively. Then, on senior Drew Femino’s hit, Magan ran home. The next two players struck out, but freshman Ethan Fitzsimmons sent Hill home on a single. Rory Van Dorpe then earned a walk to first. Next, senior Jackson Harrigan hit a single and sent Femino home. The inning ended with a fly-out, 4–0, Bromfield.
At the top of the fifth, Tyngsborough got its first out at bat, and the next two players were tagged out at first base.
The first batter up in the fifth for Bromfield was Magan. He hit a home run and the crowd went wild as he victoriously ran the bases to meet his team cheering him at home plate. Magan got the only run of the inning for a score of 5–0, Bromfield.
The sixth inning passed with neither team earning any runs and the game ended 5–1, with Tyngsborough earning one run at the top of the seventh.
A notable Bromfield player for this game was Magan, who went two hits for four at-bats, including a home run and two runs batted in.
The Trojans won their next game on Thursday, May 17, against Clinton, 5–1. These two wins put the team’s overall record at 7–7 and its league record at 4–3. With this record and a small number of games left, Bromfield is likely to make the playoffs this year. Bromfield’s next games were scheduled for Monday, May 21, against Tahanto; Tuesday, May 22, against Littleton; and Wednesday, May 23, against St. Bernard’s.
India Bartram is a Bromfield junior.
