Historical Society offers scholarship
The Harvard Historical Society will award a $500 scholarship to one 2018 Bromfield graduate. Interested applicants may email curator@harvardhistory.org for more information. Applicants will need to provide information about their interest in history and submit an essay of 600 words or less explaining why “Preserving the past is important for the future.” Entries must be postmarked by May 18, 2018.
Youth track clinic
Registration is open for children in grades 2 to 8 to participate in a track clinic at McCurdy Track. Clinic dates are:
- Wednesday, May 16, 4 to 5:45 p.m.
- Wednesday, May 23, 4 to 5:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, May 30, 4 to 5:45 p.m.
- Wednesday, June 6, 4 to 5:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, June 13, 4 to 5:30 p.m.
- Saturday, June 16, evening meet in Burlington

Registration open for Have a Jessie Day 5K
Register at www.haveajessieday.com for the ninth annual Have a Jessie Day 5K, which will take place Saturday, June 2, starting at 9 a.m. at the Bromfield School. This event was founded by Bromfield’s Class of 2012 in memory of their classmate Jessie Peterson. Proceeds will benefit the Jessica Peterson Scholarship Fund. Volunteers needed for Bromfield Reality Fair
On Friday, June 1, the Bromfield School together with the Ayer-Shirley-Devens-Harvard Rotary Club will host a Reality Fair for 10th grade students. The idea behind a Reality Fair is to expose teenagers to the financial challengers they will face when they start living as independent adults. Students will choose a possible career and will be given an estimated monthly salary; then they will navigate through the process of how they might live on that salary, making decisions about food, clothing, housing, transportation, student loans, and leisure activities. The goal is to learn how to live within one’s means. Elements of chance are added to the experience—some positive (e.g. a family inheritance) and some negative (e.g. unexpected car repairs or health issues).
For the Reality Fair to run smoothly, volunteers from the community are asked to donate a morning of time. If you’ve dealt at all with everyday issues of housing, food, clothing, transportation, insurance, utilities, etc., you’re qualified!
