On Sunday June 10 at 7:15 p.m., the Lincoln-Sudbury Civic Orchestra (LSCO) completes its 45th season with a pops concert at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School. The program is the third of three full concerts in an expanded offering this season.
Harvard resident and Artist In Residence instructor Dave McLellan is the featured soloist in a performance of the Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra #1 in D by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco.
Dave McLellan moved to Harvard from Sudbury in 2016 with his wife Jeannette. A graduate of The Hartt School, he has been performing internationally since 1976, with debuts in Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall (London), and Merkin Hall (NY). A recipient of a major grant from the NEA, Mr. McLellan performed throughout the US and Great Britain, in Europe and South America with guitar duo partner Neil Anderson. Mr. McLellan’s Concert In Your Living Room, now in its 20th year, is a pro-bono living room concert series dedicated to assisting non-profit organizations in crucial fund-raising efforts. He retired from a long career in commercial software engineering, and now devotes his time to performing, CIYLR, and volunteers in the technology classroom of the Hildreth Elementary School, and in the band and choral programs in The Bromfield School.
On September 22, Mr. McLellan will present a “Concert for Jaden” at the Harvard Unitarian Universalist Church to benefit Bromfield seventh grader Jaden Doher, who was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year. All ticket proceeds of that concert will go directly to the fund to cover Jaden’s medical bills for her treatments.
Benjamin Vickers, in his third full season as conductor, leads the orchestra in the program which features pop orchestra classics, including the Carmen Orchestral Suite #1 by Georges Bizet, and the West Side Story Suite by Leonard Bernstein. Also on the program is the 007 Through the Years, a collection of themes from the iconic James Bond movies by Stephen Bulla.
Several small ensembles offer music by Scott Joplin, Paul McCartney, Queen, and Luigi Boccherini.
Admission is a suggested donation of $10. Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School is located at 390 Lincoln Rd in Sudbury.
LSCO is a volunteer community orchestra comprising high school students and adult community members who share a love for preparing and performing substantial orchestral repertoire. The members have classical music training at the intermediate to advanced level and rehearse weekly Tuesday evenings at LSRHS. Although the scores studied and performed are the original professional scores (not arrangements for school ensembles), professional performing experience is not a requirement for membership. Members are not required to reside in Lincoln or Sudbury; the orchestra welcomes musicians regardless of town of residence.
Musicians interested in joining LSCO should contact the orchestra by email at lscivicorchestra@gmail.com, or visit http://www.lsrhs.net/sites/civicorchestra.
