Girls and boys place second at league track championships

Bromfield outdoor track competed in the Varsity League Championships Wednesday, May 16, and Thursday, May 17, at Lunenburg High School. The girls team placed second overall with 163 points, behind Lunenburg with 185 points. The boys team also came in second with 130 points to Lunenburg’s 154.5.

Highlights of the girls meet included the team finishing first in seven events. Senior Chloe Alfieri finished first in the 100-meter and the 200-meter with times of 12.41 seconds and 24.77 seconds, respectively. Sophomore Sam Schoenberg finished first in the 400-meter with a time of 1:00.38 minutes and in the high jump with a height of 5 feet 3 inches. In the 100-meter hurdles, senior Anya Begue finished first with a time of 16.29 seconds. With a height of 8 feet 3 inches, junior Lelia Grant finished first in the pole vault. Junior Izzi Barton finished first in the discus with a distance of 99 feet 5 inches.

The boys team had two first-place finishes. Ryell deRuijter finished first in the 100-meter with a time of 11.86 seconds. Jordan Colon finished first in the 200-meter with a time of 24.36 seconds.

Both teams will compete in their respective boys and girls Varsity District Championship meets Saturday, May 26, at Fitchburg State.
