The Bromfield girls track team won the District E Class Meet Saturday, May 12, at Shepherd Hill Regional High School in Dudley.

In winning the meet, the girls placed first in several events. Senior Chloe Alfieri placed first in the 100-meter and the 200-meter with times of 12.36 seconds and 25.16 seconds, respectively. She broke records in both of these events. Sophomore Tessa McClain placed first in the mile with a time of 5:28.20 minutes, and senior Anya Begue placed first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.42 seconds. With a jump of 5 feet, sophomore Samantha Schoenberg placed first in the high jump.
When asked about the meet, Coach Jonathan Route said, “It was a miserable day, rainy, cold. I don’t think one of our girls complained about it. They went out and they performed. I think their attitude and dealing with it helped them beat a lot of the girls from the other teams.” He was pleased with the team’s overall performance and highlighted some individual victories.These included freshman Hannah Beckman’s personal record time in the 800-meter, Schoenberg’s high jump, Alfieri’s 100-meter and 200-meter, and McClain’s mile. Route emphasized that the entire team performed extremely well, having earned 115.5 points, nearly twice that of second place Sutton.
Anya Bégué spoke about her race in the 100-meter hurdles. “For me it was a big race,” she explained. Bégué was back from an injury and hoping to win. She told the Press, “It was a big day and I was nervous, but I went in and won.” When asked about goals she has for the end of the season, she shared those she had for herself and the team: “I would love to break 16 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles. My biggest teamwide goal would be winning the state title again, for the fourth year in a row.”
The team was scheduled to compete in the league championships Wednesday, May 16, at Lunenburg High School in Lunenburg.
