For many of us, Saturday was our first Annual Town Meeting and possibly our first toe dip into politics beyond ballot voting. We have little children (0–6 years old) and many of us have only been in town for a few years. Your gracious offer to organize a massive playdate for our children on site during the Town Meeting was our first exposure to the ATM beyond the chatter on Nextdoor. We didn’t have to worry about competing for sitters, timing of the ATM, or payment if we could not afford the $20 to $40 donation. You made it easy for us to sign up or just pop in to see if our shy toddlers would take to the new environment (of which many did!). Organizers (Rachel Kopay, Shannon Molloy, Julie Meyers, Nate Finch, Josh Myler, Scott Mulcahy, Pam Alexander, Mary Zadroga, Meg Bagdonas, and Paul Green): You were so thoughtful in your implementation of this offering. Thank you for your efforts.
Drop-off was also our first physical exposure to the chaos of the ATM. The familiar faces that we saw (teachers, school administrators, prior Egg Hunt and Halloween Parade volunteers, friends, neighbors, and sitters) were so welcoming that we were able to transition right into the discussion at hand. The two dozen teen volunteers made the day so much fun and were great ambassadors of the school system. Our children came out of the day exhausted, totally jazzed, and thrilled. Naptime was wonderfully extended after a long day well spent.
