The Harvard Conservation Trust would like to urge all townspeople to support Article 37 at the Annual Town Meeting on May 5. Approval of this article supports the work done by the Nashua River Wild and Scenic River Study Committee in its effort to seek Wild and Scenic River designation for all of the Nissitissit and Squannacook rivers, and the portion of the Nashua River from the confluence of the North and South Nashua rivers in Lancaster to the New Hampshire border. Obtaining this designation would provide important protection for these rivers, including the stretch of the Nashua River that forms Harvard’s western boundary, and will provide the study committee and its successor stewardship council with access to federal funds and technical assistance.
Article 37 asks the town to accept the stewardship plan, which details how the rivers will be protected, and to support the recommendation to seek Wild and Scenic River designation. Please support the continuing effort to protect these valuable resources.
