Daily opportunities exist for communities to affirm their character. Core values of caring, collaboration, and commitment can be demonstrated in big and small ways. Thank you to all community friends, neighbors, members, and colleagues who helped Bare Hill Rowing Association (BHRA) successfully sponsor its fourth annual Harvard Henley reception and regatta this weekend.
Under Saturday’s sunny spring skies, more than 400 student athletes from four Massachusetts public school rowing teams enjoyed the opportunity to compete on Bare Hill Pond and share in the finest rowing traditions of England’s 179-year-old Henley Royal Regatta, together with families, friends, and spectators. A warm reception the night before provided a welcome chance to socialize among the teams in the Henley spirit. The Henley Regatta is modeled on the values of camaraderie, preparation, perseverance, and teamwork. These qualities were demonstrated in spades by our town of Harvard collaborators working with BHRA this year.
Special thanks go to the town administrator, Board of Selectmen, EMTs, Parks and Recreation commissioners, harbormaster, Harvard Cultural Collaborative, Harvard Public Library, Harvard Press, and fire, police, school, and DPW personnel for being generous and responsive community partners in this enriching effort. No challenge was insurmountable with your help and creativity. We thank these town partners and all neighbors, sponsors, BHRA rowers, coaches, and members for “pulling together” to affirm our joint commitment to value, cultivate, and nurture the strength of our community character, opportunities for educational and recreational growth experiences, and the positive impacts of caring and cohesion in all efforts undertaken together.
