Shaker Village resident, conservationist, mechanic
Nicholas Schwaab, age 63, of 100 Shaker Road in Harvard, beloved son of the late Louis and Barbara Schwaab, passed away Dec. 28, 2017, at Nashoba Valley Medical Center, after a brief illness.
Born in Concord, “Nick” grew up in Acton and moved to Harvard as a teenager. He attended Acton elementary schools and graduated from the Gow School, a preparatory school in upstate New York. He earned a graduate degree as a diesel mechanic from Wentworth Institute.
As a boy, Nick was mentored by his older sister, Liz, when their parents traveled abroad, and he enjoyed spending time outdoors with his family: nieces and nephews who remember rides around their property on all manner of jeeps and farm tractors. As an adult, Nick worked as a contractor, landscaper, and mechanic, but he was first and foremost a Renaissance man who loved nature, the land, and many artisan hobbies. He recently made possible a conservation grant of land in Shaker Village to the town of Harvard.
Nick is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Genz, and her husband, Terry, of Little Rock, Arkansas, and their children, Julia Cipriano and Thomas Genz. Nick’s brother, Eugene B. Condon, predeceased him but leaves a wife, Barbara Condon, and their children: Eugene B. Condon Jr., Mark Condon, B. Hayes Condon, David E. Condon, and Mary Condon Joyce. Nick enjoyed many friends and neighbors in the Shaker Village home that he loved. He was cared for in his final days by his good friend, Dan Dellovo.
A memorial service and gathering of friends is being planned by Dan Dellovo for April 28, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the property, to honor Nick Schwaab’s life.
