Bromfield girls indoor track athletes placed in several events at the MIAA All-State Championship Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, including a first-place finish in the 300-meter.
The team competed against schools from across the state and claimed a first, third, and 22nd place in three separate events. Senior Chloe Alfieri came in first in the 300-meter with a time of 39.30 and fourth in the 55-meter at 7.23 seconds. Sophomore Sam Schoenberg came in 22nd in the high jump with a height of 5 feet. As a team, Bromfield placed ninth with 16 points, tying with Springfield Central.
The relay team comprising Alfieri, Schoenberg, sophomore Liza Toll, and freshman Claire Stoddard qualified for the meet but did not compete.
“All-States was definitely not my best performance, but it was a meet that I just wanted to focus on getting through in order to get ready for New Englands,” Alfieri told the Press this week. She said she wanted to win not only the 55-meter and 300-meter races this weekend, but to set a personal best in both “as it will be the last time I ever run them.” Reflecting on her victories this season, she said she was pleased with her performance. “But I am always looking to the future with the aim to improve,” she added. “I faced my share of pressure and background noise but ultimately tuned that out and remained focused on my goals.”
Alfieri will compete in the New England Interscholastic Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday, March 3, at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
