I am excited to announce my intention to become a candidate for School Committee of the Harvard Public Schools and I respectfully ask for the opportunity to earn your vote.
As a 10-year resident of Harvard with a kindergartner at Hildreth Elementary School, I bring a passion to ensure every child in our town has access to a top-tier educational experience and develops a lifelong love of learning.
As a corporate professional, I have served extensively in client-facing roles that require collaboration and openness, skills which I believe can create both closer ties and greater transparency among the School Committee, other boards and committees, and the public. These skills are particularly relevant as we tackle the large projects and challenges that will help our district remain a hub of excellence in our state and country. We must go forward in a way that serves our students and inspires the trust and pride of our residents.
As a manager with responsibility for the budget and personnel of a $40 million region, I hope to leverage my experience to provide oversight of the school budget, with an eye toward meeting student needs while representing taxpayers in financial decisions. This is especially important given the impending vote on a new school, which—whether it passes or not—will bear significant consequences going forward.
As a mentor and competitive sport coach to elementary, middle, and high school students, I have the deepest respect for the hard work and challenges our teachers, school leaders, and students face academically, socially, and emotionally. With a relatively new school leadership team in place, it is critical to provide our administrators with feedback, tools, and sound policies to keep the education we provide competitive and innovative in a 21st-century context.
I care deeply about our town and hope you will give me the opportunity to help keep our schools a source of educational excellence while providing transparency and solid engagement with our entire community. Please cast your vote for me on May 8, 2018. Thank you.
