The Bromfield Trojans girls basketball team fell again to Clinton, 59–55, Gardner, 40–34, and Littleton, 34–11, during the past two weeks. Both Clinton and Gardner were away games, with Littleton at home.
On Monday, Jan. 29, the Trojans challenged the Clinton Gaels, who placed only one above Bromfield in the Mid-Wach League Division D. The game was the closest that week, and the Trojans lost by only four points. Bromfield was in the lead the first half at 26–23, but Clinton turned it around in the last half hour. The Gaels added 36 points to their score, while the Trojans fell behind with just 29 points added in the second half. Clinton’s Neleesha Meunier was her team’s top scorer with 23 points, 14 of which came from baskets and nine from free throws. Eighth-grader Natalia Dutkewych was Bromfield’s top scorer for the evening, almost reaching Meunier’s score with her 22 points. Seventeen of Dutkewych’s points came from field goals, which included a 3-pointer, and five from free throws. Sophomore Callie Frackiewicz followed Dutkewych at 17 total points for the night.
The following day, Gardner defeated Bromfield by six points. The Wildcats mirrored the Trojans, at fifth place in their own Mid-Wach League Division C. Gardner pulled ahead with a four-point lead by halftime, 20–16. In the second half, both teams added the same number of points, so Gardner maintained its six-point lead until the end of the evening. Becca Lashua was top scorer for the Wildcats at 10 points. Isabelle Katter was Bromfield’s top scorer at 12 points.
On Friday, Feb. 2, Bromfield lost to Littleton, third in the league, by its largest point margin of the recent games. The Tigers had a 23-point lead on the Trojans. Littleton pulled ahead by nine points in the first half at 17–8, and added another 17 points in the second half, while Bromfield scored only three more points. Katter was Bromfield’s highest scorer once again at five points. Mimi Pyram was Littleton’s top scorer at 13 points.
After the trio of games, the Trojans had an overall season record of 1–16 and a 0–7 league record. Their next game was scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 6, away against Tyngsborough, the top team in the league.
