Police made three traffic stops during the week, one with a verbal warning and one with a written warning, and one summons. They also helped two motorists with disabled vehicles and assisted two others who had accidentally locked themselves out of their cars. The ambulance crew responded to three medical calls, taking four people to the hospital, one with Advanced Life Support on board.
Tuesday, Jan. 23
Just after midnight, police alerted the DPW to hazardous road conditions. At 2:31 p.m. the DPW reported that a large broken pine branch was hanging over power lines on Old Mill Road; National Grid was notified. At the same time, a 911 caller said a turquoise Elantra had passed the caller’s car at high speed on Still River Road. The information was forwarded to Bolton police. At 3:17 p.m. an officer responded to a call from the elementary school about a fallen tree limb, which the officer removed. At 5:15 p.m. a driver reported that another car had damaged his near the intersection of Sherry and Littleton County roads, but the other car had not stopped. The matter was referred to the Boxborough police, who had jurisdiction. Moments later, a Stow Road resident called to say a contractor had backed his vehicle into the caller’s car, resulting in damage. At 9:46 p.m. police again notified the DPW of icy road conditions in response to a call from an Ayer Road resident.
Wednesday, Jan. 24
At 12:02 a.m. police responded to a burglar alarm at the elementary school and found it had been set off accidentally by the night cleaning crew. At 9:14 a.m. a Littleton Road resident reported suspicious activity, but police found nothing amiss when they checked the area. At 5:34 p.m. Littleton police asked for assistance from Harvard fire and ambulance crews for an accident on Route 2 westbound, near Exit 38. However, Littleton withdrew the request shortly thereafter.
Thursday, Jan. 25
The ambulance crew responded to a call at 3:48 a.m. and took a West Bare Hill Road resident to Emerson Hospital. Around 9:30 a.m. two officers spoke to Bromfield seniors in the On Your Own class in a session that dealt with drug problems. At 9:37 a.m. an officer mediated a dispute between a Trail Ridge resident and a contractor whose truck was blocking the resident’s drive.
Friday, Jan. 26
Two officers attended a morning session in Clinton District Court in connection with charges stemming from a drug arrest some months ago, but the case was continued without a finding until next month. At 4:57 p.m. a Westcott Road resident reported seeing a dark-clad man in the backyard of a house from which an alarm was audible. Police searched the area but found no one.
Saturday, Jan. 27
At 7:38 a.m. the ambulance crew took a Lovers Lane resident to Lowell General Hospital. At 11:14 a.m. the squad was back on the road, taking a child from Candleberry Lane to Emerson Hospital. At 12:10 p.m. an officer gave a driver a written warning for failing to stop at the intersection of South Shaker and Ayer roads. At 12:31 an Old Shirley Road resident received a summons for failing to stay within the correct lane and driving without a license.
Sunday, Jan. 28
At 1:40 p.m. a Woodside Road resident reported a missing person but was subsequently able to make contact with the person.
Monday, Jan. 30
At 9:24 a.m. a Trail Ridge resident called to complain that a construction vehicle was again blocking the driveway. An officer spoke to the contractor. At 2:40 p.m. a Bromfield student reported that someone had damaged the student’s car in the school parking lot. The car was drivable, and no witnesses have come forward. At 4:25 p.m. an Ayer Road resident told police she had been scammed out of a substantial sum by a phone caller claiming to be an attorney and saying her grandson had been arrested. The resident said someone who sounded like her grandson was also on the call, so she then wired the requested funds. Because the amount was more than $250, the scam is a felony. Police said the same phone number has also been the source of scamming calls purporting to come from the IRS.
