Beware of recent phone scam
The Worcester County sheriff’s office warns residents that scam artists are calling citizens and threatening them with prosecution for failing to comply with jury service in federal or state courts or saying they have an arrest warrant in their name. Fraudulent calls are being received where the callers are identifying themselves as officers from the sheriff’s office and making attempts to pressure recipients into providing pre-paid money cards, credit card, Social Security, and other confidential data, potentially leading to identity theft and fraud. These calls, which threaten recipients with fines and jail time if they do not comply, are fraudulent and are not connected with the U.S. courts or the county sheriff’s office.

Underground Railroad exhibit at library
Visit an exhibit about Lewis Hayden and the Underground Railroad on display on the second floor of the library in the hallway outside Volunteers Hall. This exhibit is on loan from Boston’s Commonwealth Museum. Hayden was born into slavery, escaped via the Underground Railroad, and became instrumental in the struggle for dignity and equal rights in 19th-century Boston.
Lifelong learning courses offered at MWCC
Mount Wachusett Community College (MWCC) has announced its lifelong learning classes, with an array of noncredit courses designed for people continuing their education, exploring new interests, or expanding their career options. The spring course list includes classes in music, art, photography, software, and language. There are also classes focusing on professional development, job search skills, and exploring new careers. Professional certifications offered include ServSafe, Introduction to Computer-Aided Design, and Basic Life Support CPR for Healthcare Providers.
In addition to adult classes, MWCC has a variety of classes during April school vacation week for students ages 5 to 18.

Harvard 4th of July T-shirt art contest
Students up to age 18 who live or attend school in Harvard are invited to participate in the annual 4th of July T-shirt art contest. Designs should speak to this year’s theme, “Harvard Has History: WWI Armistice Centennial 1918-2018.” Participants can submit as many drawings as they choose. There will be drop boxes at the Harvard General Store and at the front desks of HES and Bromfield. Please see www.Harvard4thofJuly.com for rules and ideas. Deadline is Friday, Feb. 16. Winners will receive a T-shirt and two tickets to the New England Aquarium in Boston, and will ride in a convertible in the July 4th parade.
HES kindergarten registration open
Kindergarten registration is now open at Hildreth Elementary School. Details of the registration process are at http://hildreth.psharvard.org.
The process includes:
- Submitting an Intent to Enroll form by March 1.
- Scheduling an appointment with the counselor and nurse the week of March 5.
- Scheduling an appointment for screening on Thursday, March 22.
