On Saturday, Feb. 10, at Fitchburg High School, the Bromfield girls indoor track team placed second in the MIAA District E meet, and the boys placed 11th. Senior Chloe Alfieri ran in the New Balance Grand Prix the same day at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. She placed seventh in the 60-meter with a time of 7.91 seconds.
Competing against 30 other schools, the girls scored 42 points, including first-place finishes in the 1000-meter and the high jump which placed the team second to Littleton with 63 points. Tessa McClain took first in the 1000-meter with a time of 3:12.42 minutes; Hannah Beckman finished third at 3:19.54. Samantha Schoenberg placed first in the high jump, jumping 5 feet 0 inches, and Sophie Beckman came in fifth, jumping 4-9. Anya Begue came in third in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.45 seconds. The team’s 4×880-meter relay team—Molly Squire, Sophie Beckman, Tessa McClain, and Hannah Beckman—came in third with a time of 11:00.04.
The boys team finished 11th with 13 points. Ryell DeRuijter took fourth in both the 300-meter (39.56 seconds) and the high jump (5-10).
Members from both the girls and boys teams will be competing in the MIAA Division 2 indoor track state championships on Thursday, Feb. 15, at 1 p.m. at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
