It was a quiet week in Harvard, despite a snowstorm that began the evening of Jan. 16 and ended Jan. 17, resulting in a few calls to the DPW to treat the roads. During the week, police made two traffic stops resulting in one verbal warning and one citation. They also assisted three motorists with disabled vehicles as well as two locked-out motorists. The ambulance crew responded to seven medical emergencies and took seven people to the hospital, three with Advanced Life Support on board.
Tuesday, Jan. 16
In a reported case of identity theft, someone used a resident’s Social Security number and name to apply for benefits. Police documented the incident. After notifying the police, residents are urged to report identity theft to the appropriate agency, in this case, the Social Security Administration.
Wednesday, Jan. 17
Snowy road conditions caused a car to slide off Orchard Hill Road at 4:19 p.m. No one was injured, but the car required a tow./p>
Thursday, Jan. 18
At 8:58 p.m. a 911 caller reported a horse loose in the center of town near the Congregational Church. An officer searched the area but could not find the horse. Animal control was notified./p>
Friday, Jan. 19
A 911 caller reported a raccoon walking down Shaker Road at 11:39 a.m. The caller was concerned that the animal might be rabid because it was out during daylight hours. Police said that while raccoons are generally nocturnal, it is not necessarily a sign of rabies for them to be active during the day./p>

Ayer police requested assistance from Harvard police to search for someone who had broken into the liquor store at 48 Main Street in Ayer. The description of the suspect was a male dressed in black. A Harvard officer searched the area unsuccessfully for about an hour. As of Jan. 23, the case was still under investigation and no suspects had been apprehended, Ayer police said./p>
Monday, Jan. 22
Icy conditions were to blame for a rollover accident on Tahanto Trail at 6:55 p.m. Police said the driver was wearing a seat belt and appeared to be uninjured, but because of the severity of the accident, she was taken to Nashoba Valley Medical Center as a precaution
