The Bromfield boys varsity basketball team suffered a 48–40 loss at a home game against the Lunenburg Blue Knights Friday night, Jan. 5.
A combination of successful 3-pointers and foul shots that exceeded those of Bromfield contributed to Lunenburg’s win.

Within the first 15 seconds of the game, junior Patrick Flanagan got Bromfield off to a positive start with a 2-pointer. Senior Jackson Harrigan, sophomore Will Armstrong, and junior Baylor Ashe added 13 more points to Bromfield’s first quarter total, topping Lunenburg’s nine, making the score at the end of the quarter 15–9, Bromfield.
At the start of the second quarter, Lunenburg scored a 2-pointer and two foul shots. But after a missed shot, Flanagan grabbed the rebound and passed it to Harrigan, who shot a 2-pointer. Soon after, Flanagan scored a 2-pointer. Two more foul shots by Lunenburg and a 2-pointer by Bromfield brought the score to 21–17, in favor of Bromfield, as the first half ended.
The Trojans had maintained a four-point lead over the Blue Knights throughout the first half, but in the second half, the Blue Knights made up the difference and came out on top.
Lunenburg caught up in the third quarter with four 2-pointers and two 3-pointers. Then, scoring by Armstrong and Harrigan brought the Trojans within a point of tying, 31–30, Lunenburg.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter Lunenburg made good on two foul shots, pushing the team a little further ahead. Although Harrigan was able to get two foul shots for Bromfield, scoring was minimal in the next two minutes because of a lot of missed shots and strong defense on both sides. That didn’t leave Bromfield with a lot of time to regain the lead.
In the next two minutes, Lunenburg scored seven points to Bromfield’s four, all of which were foul shots. In the final minute Lunenburg added another two points, putting them ahead by 10. Although a loss for Bromfield seemed inevitable, eighth-grader Jayden Ndjigue persisted and added two points in the last 15 seconds of the game.
Both teams ended the game with 10 fouls. The top scorer for Bromfield was Jackson Hannigan with 14 points.
This game left Bromfield with an overall record of 3–4 and Lunenburg with a 3–2 record. Bromfield’s next game was scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 9, against Gardner at home.
