To kick off its season, Bromfield varsity girls indoor track won two of three meets, while the varsity boys team lost all three of its meets.
The varsity girls team lost its first meet 56–35 to Lunenburg Saturday, Dec. 9, followed by a 46–45 win Wednesday, Dec. 30, over Ayer Shirley. Senior Chloe Alfieri won the 300-meter, running a 43.6. Sophomore Tessa McClain won the mile with a time of 5:29.9. The team triumphed over Narragansett Regional Wednesday, Jan. 3, with an overall score of 59–31. Sophomore Samantha Schoenberg placed first in the high jump event with a jump of 5 feet. On Sunday, Jan. 8, the team participated in the MSTCA Freshman-Sophomore Invitational. Schoenberg won the high jump with a personal record of 5 feet 3 inches; McClain won the mile with a personal record of 5.19; and Claire Stoddard came in third in the 600-meter with a personal record of 1.44.
On Saturday, Dec. 9, the varsity boys team lost 69–21 to Lunenburg. The Trojans suffered another loss Wednesday, Dec. 30, against Ayer Shirley with a score of 69.5–20.5. On Wednesday, Jan. 3, the team lost 57–31 to Narragansett. At the MSTCA Freshman-Sophomore Invitational, sophomore Will Squire came in third in the high jump.
This year is Jonathan Route’s first year as head coach of the Bromfield indoor and outdoor track teams after five years as assistant coach. After their first three meets, the girls team was in fourth place and the boys were in sixth in the Mid-Wach League’s Division D. Both the girls and boys teams had upcoming meets scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 10, against Murdock at 4 p.m. at Shrewsbury High School, and Wednesday, Jan. 17, against Littleton at 5 p.m. at Wachusett Regional High School.
