The first snowfall of the season caused five accidents. Police made five traffic stops, all resulting in verbal warnings; helped four motorists with disabled vehicles; and assisted one locked-out motorist. The ambulance crew responded to eight medical emergencies and took eight people to the hospital, four with Advanced Life Support on board
Tuesday, Dec. 5
At 2:57 p.m. a caller who meant to dial 411 accidentally dialed 911. Police still respond to these calls to confirm that they are accidental, which this one was. A caller reported traffic cones on Littleton Road at 3:58 p.m. An officer was dispatched; no cones were found.
Wednesday, Dec. 6
A 911 caller on Glenview Drive reported seeing flashlights inside and outside a neighbor’s house at 4:06 a.m. Harvard and state police responded but found no one outside the house and nothing out of place in the house. At 8:18 a.m. a caller reported that the power was out at his house on Littleton County Road. Police suggest that residents report power outages to National Grid, but they are available to assist anyone with a safety issue due to a power outage. A motorist called at 10:48 a.m. to report a vehicle tailgating her, honking the horn, and passing her at a high rate of speed as she slowed to turn into her driveway on Still River Road. She provided a plate number and a description of the vehicle, but police said the plate number and vehicle description did not match. At 11:43 a.m. a motorist reported a box van failing to stay within its lane and speeding on Poor Farm Road. The vehicle turned onto Ayer Road headed toward the Ayer rotary; Harvard police requested that Ayer police watch for the vehicle. At 12:56 p.m. personnel at a property rental company received threats from someone whose rental application was denied. Police assisted with mediation, and the rental company was told to contact the police again if the threats resumed.
Thursday, Dec. 7
At 5:34 p.m. a caller reported a rabbit that was injured but not dead in the roadway on Old Littleton Road. Animal control was notified. At 10:30 p.m. a car rolled over on Lancaster County Road. One person was injured and taken to the hospital.

Saturday, Dec. 9
Police notified the DPW at 9:46 a.m. that it was starting to snow so it could begin preparations for the day. At 12:27 p.m. someone stopped by the station looking for a phone that had gone missing from the car in the rollover accident two days before. Police did not have the phone but suspected that since the windows broke when the car rolled over, the phone may have fallen out and been covered by the snow. At 3:28 p.m. a driver on Still River Road stopped to avoid a jogger, and a second vehicle, traveling behind, couldn’t stop in time, swerved into the other lane, and slid into a third vehicle. The second vehicle was cited for driving too fast for conditions and a marked lane violation. No one was injured. Shortly afterward, at 3:42 p.m., a minor accident involving two cars took place at the same location. No one was injured, and the drivers exchanged paperwork and drove away. At 4:49 p.m. a minor crash occurred on Ayer Road near the Appleworks building. The first car was traveling south at a slow rate of speed when the driver decided to pull over because of the slippery road conditions and heavy snow. The car behind her couldn’t stop in time and hit her car. No one was injured, and one driver was cited for failure to use care while stopping. At 7:01 p.m. Ayer police requested assistance from Harvard police to respond to a woman caller who said a man was standing in her yard on Sandy Pond Road and staring at her. An officer found no one in the area and no footprints in the snow in the woman’s yard. The final motor vehicle accident of the day occurred at 9:42 p.m. when a car went off the road and struck a utility pole. No one was injured, the car was towed, and National Grid was advised to check the pole.
Sunday, Dec. 10
Slippery roads at 8:16 a.m. caused a car traveling north on Bolton Road to go off the road and strike a tree. Two people were injured and taken to the hospital. The car suffered significant front-end damage and was towed from the scene. At 2:56 p.m. a large boulder was reported in the road on Massachusetts Avenue near Westward Orchards. An officer moved the boulder and notified DPW to remove it. At 4:15 p.m. police notified DPW of hazardous road conditions throughout town.
Monday, Dec. 11
Someone stopped by the police station at 1:58 p.m. with a license plate found on the side of the road. It belonged to a DPW vehicle. At 4:16 p.m. a caller reported a black lab running loose in the intersection of Ayer Road and Still River Road. The dog was gone when an officer arrived; animal control was notified.
