Police made one traffic stop during the week, which resulted in a verbal warning for that driver. They also assisted one motorist in getting into an inadvertently locked car, and responded to one request for an outdoor cooking fire and another for an agricultural burn permit. The ambulance crew responded to six medical emergencies and took four people to the hospital. Two people refused treatment or transport to the hospital.
Tuesday, Oct. 24
At 12:45 p.m. a caller reported a possible disabled car on the side of Ayer Road. Police went to the location and found a car in a ditch. The driver said he had pulled off the road and accidentally ended up in the ditch. An officer ordered a tow truck to winch out the vehicle and issued the driver a citation for failure to stay within marked lanes. Police say a drain in the ditch was somewhat damaged. A motorist called 911 at 7:02 p.m. to report having struck an object in the road. Police arrived and determined that the driver had hit a downed tree branch; there was no damage to the car. A Warren Avenue resident called at 7:56 p.m. to report that the family dog had gotten loose. The person called back minutes later to say the dog had been found.

Thursday, Oct. 26
A motorist called 911 at 7:20 a.m. to report that something had struck his vehicle, shattering the windshield and denting the side of his car. The responding officer inspected the car, and based on the blood and fur found on the vehicle, determined that it had hit a deer, which had apparently run off. Police say damage to the car was more than $1,000, but the vehicle was drivable. At 7:44 p.m. someone called to report suspicions about a car with its hazard lights on parked at Dunkin’ Donuts. Police checked on the car and found that the driver had been napping. A Woodchuck Hill Road resident called to report a tree down on some power lines. National Grid was contacted, and the Department of Public Works was notified to help clean up the debris. At 11:22 a.m. a motorist called 911 to report striking a deer. The driver was not injured, and no tow was required. A 911 caller reported a disturbance at a residence on Ayer Road. The ambulance was called because the resident appeared to be in distress, but the person refused treatment and transport to the hospital.
Friday, Oct. 27
At 12:33 p.m. a caller reported branches in the roadway on Glenview Drive. The DPW was dispatched to remove them. Someone called at 3:56 p.m. to report an accident on Depot Road involving a car and a motorcycle. Police say the driver of a car on Under Pin Hill Road pulled out onto Depot Road in front of a motorcycle. To avoid a collision, the motorcyclist dumped the bike and was later taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the car was not injured but was cited for failure to yield. An Ohlin Lane resident called at 7:26 p.m. with suspicions about a sedan that had been parked in the neighborhood for a while. The car was gone when police arrived.
Saturday, Oct. 28
Someone called at 12:26 p.m. to complain that cars parked along East Bare Hill Road posed a traffic hazard. Police went to the location and found one car parked there, located the owner, and asked that the car be moved. A Finn Road resident called at 3:44 p.m. to report a tree limb on some wires. Charter Communications was contacted to take care of the situation.
Sunday, Oct. 29
At 11:24 p.m. a patrol officer found a large tree leaning on electrical wires on Depot Road, causing sparks. National Grid and the DPW were notified, and the road was shut down until early Monday while repairs were made.
Monday, Oct. 30
Heavy winds and rain brought down trees, branches, and wires all over town throughout the day, keeping repair crews and DPW workers busy fixing wires and cleaning up debris. Between midnight Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday, reports came in from Littleton County Road, Littleton Road, Depot Road, Still River Road, Oak Hill Road, Old Mill Road, Lancaster County Road, Craggs Road, Shaker Road, and Hynes Lane. Between 8:34 a.m. and 4:11 p.m., police received reports of downed wires and trees on Littleton County Road, South Shaker Road, Pattee Road, Cruft Lane, Craggs Road, Murray Lane, and Littleton Road.
