Led by Harvard native Nico Agosta, the Francis W. Parker Charter Essential School boys cross-country team placed first at Saturday’s MIAA Division 2 state championship in Wrentham. The championship was a first for the 22-year-old Devens-based school.

Agosta, a senior, finished third among 178 runners on the 5-kilometer course with a time of 16:09.30, just seconds behind race winner Sam Acquaviva of Newburyport High (15:58.81). With its 90-point score, Parker squeaked past second-place Pentucket Regional High School (95) and third-place Hopedale (98).
In the girls Division 2 state championship, Parker finished seventh among 20 schools. The top Parker girl was senior Phoebe von Conta of Harvard, who finished 24th among 178 runners with a time of 19:41.18.
And just behind von Conta, finishing 25th, was Bromfield sophomore Tessa McClain, with a time of 19:41.44. McClain was the only Bromfield runner to qualify for either the boys or girls all-state event.
Parker Essential School was founded in 1995 and, according to its website, draws its 400 middle and high school students from 40 communities throughout north-central Massachusetts.
