NRWA online auction is underway
The Nashua River Watershed Association’s (NRWA) online auction at www.biddingforgood.com/NashuaR iverWatershed has begun and will end Dec. 1. The auction provides a way for participants to do their holiday shopping while supporting NRWA’s efforts to protect natural resources and provide environmental education programs in 32 watershed communities.
Property inspections
Harvard’s Board of Assessors is in the process of conducting periodic property data inspections. Data collectors will be wearing ID badges and checking in with the Harvard Police Department. These inspections will take place during weekday hours. Inspection notices and questionnaires were mailed to properties to be inspected. Donations/volunteers needed for ‘Shop for Your Kids Day’
Loaves & Fishes will hold its annual “Shop for Your Kids Day” so that the children of their clients from Ayer, Groton, Harvard, Littleton, Shirley, and Devens can celebrate the holidays with gifts and toys for their children. The event will be held Thursday, Dec. 14, at the Bob Eisengrein Community Center, 100 Sherman Avenue, Devens. Last year, thanks to donations from residents and businesses of nearby towns, and the efforts of more than 100 volunteers, more than 500 children received gifts from their parents or guardians; many of these children would not have received anything without this program.
Needed are unwrapped new toys, games, puzzles, books, and jewelry valued at up to $25 for children aged 18 and younger, or gift cards in denominations of $10, $15, or $25. For a list of the most needed items, visit loavesfishespantry.org.
Toys can be dropped off at local post offices or police stations or at Donelan’s supermarkets in Groton or Littleton. Gifts and donations may also be brought to Loaves & Fishes at 234 Barnum Road, Devens, Wednesday and Friday mornings until Dec. 11.
Volunteers are needed to help set up on Saturday morning, Dec. 9, and to work at the event on Thursday, Dec. 14 (morning or evening). Email Karen at LFShop4YourKids@gmail.com.
Recall of fire extinguishers
The Harvard Fire Department wants residents to know that Kidde and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission are recalling all Kidde fire extinguishers with plastic handles manufactured between January 1973 and Aug. 15, 2017. To determine if your extinguisher is affected, check online at www.kidde.com and click Product Safety Recall Notice or call Kidde toll free at 855-271-0773, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Residents may also contact Lt. Andrew Perry at 978-456-3648 or aperry@harvard.ma.us. After you have replaced your extinguisher, you can leave your old one at the fire station.
Mitten drive at library
Girl Scout Troop 40165 is collecting mittens for those in need. Bring a pair of child- or adult-sized mittens to the children’s room at the library now through Dec. 11 to hang on the mitten tree. In addition to mittens, the Scouts will welcome donations of hats, gloves, and scarves. All donations will be brought to Loaves&Fishes for “Shop for Your Kids Day.”
