If you heard “Boo-Rah BOO-RAH,” the boys varsity soccer team pregame chant; fire engine sirens; cowbells; vuvuzela horns; and “All In,” the girls varsity soccer pregame chant, this past weekend, then you attended the “Under the Lights” events at Harvard Park. Bromfield versus Sutton.
We hope a new tradition was born. All four Bromfield soccer teams joined together to play soccer and support each other. Friday, girls JV and varsity teams played, while the boys volunteered, and vice versa on Saturday. An alumni game was played Saturday afternoon and some of our youngest soccer players in town played under the lights during halftime with the Bromfield and Harvard Elementary mascots. The atmosphere was electric!
Once Principal Scott Hoffman secured and funded the temporary lights, the community came together: Local businesses donated generously; garages and barns were scoured for tents, generators, extension cords, tables, and lights; food and drinks were purchased; advertising was designed; family cars became delivery trucks; decorations and programs were created; signs and sandwich boards were painted; and volunteers were recruited for everything from parking to Sunday morning cleanup. This two-night event truly took a village.
The vision, leadership, and hard work from Dave Boisvert, Bromfield athletic director; support from Scott Hoffman, Bromfield principal; and tireless volunteer effort from soccer parents, families, and players are what made this event come to life. We thank you! Special thanks to Sorrento’s Pizzeria and Oscar’s Restaurant for feeding the entire boys and girls JV and varsity teams. Thanks to the Harvard Parks and Rec, the PTO, the Bromfield chorus members for singing our national anthem, donations from Carlson’s Orchard, Westward Orchard, the Harvard General Store, and Roxanna Trabulsi for advertising. We are grateful to the Harvard Police Department, Fire Department, and EMTs for ensuring a safe venue. And thank you to the coaches and to Sutton for playing us under the lights!
