Let’s go to the movies

On Monday, Oct. 16, at 1 p.m. in Volunteers Hall, see a feature-length comedy about a Pakistan-born comedian and a grad student who fall in love but struggle as their cultures clash. The film is R-rated.



Flu clinic

Nashoba Nursing Service will be at Hildreth House Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 9 to 11 a.m. for a flu clinic. Flu vaccines have been updated to better match current circulating viruses. Bring your insurance (Medicare) card. Call the COA office if you need a ride.



Crane Estate tour

Sign up for a tour of the magnificent grounds and 59-room English-style mansion at the Crane Estate in Ipswich Wednesday, Oct. 18. The estate is considered the crown jewel of the Trustees of Reservations properties. The bus will leave Hildreth House at 10 a.m. We will stop for lunch on the way and return to Harvard about 3 p.m. The fee is $25.



Back to the Garden performs at Slaters

Debbie Thomson’s band Back to the Garden will perform some Halloween favorites at Slaters restaurant in Bolton Saturday, Oct. 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. The COA van will be available at no charge; sign up is required by Oct. 16.



SHINE offers advice on health insurance plan options

For those seniors with a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan or a Medicare Advantage Plan (HMO or PPO), open enrollment is Oct. 15 through Dec. 7. This is the time to review your current plan and the chance to change plans. All those enrolled in Medicare should have received notification by mail of current plan changes.
SHINE is a state agency that helps elders understand their health insurance options. Trained SHINE counselors offer free, confidential counseling on all aspects of Medicare and related health insurance programs. To schedule a SHINE appointment call 978-456-4120.



Halloween party

Come to a ghoulish luncheon party with special desserts Thursday, Oct. 26, at noon. Wear your favorite costume. There will be a $2 fee for the meal. Sign up by Oct. 23.



Save the date for artisan multi-media gallery show

Start your holiday shopping early at Harvard’s artisan multi-media gallery show Saturday, Nov. 18, 7 to 10 p.m. at the Congregational Church. The event, a fundraiser for the COA, will feature glassware, jewelry, paintings, photography, quilting, pottery, weaving, woodworking, and one-of-a-kind art. Food, drink, and live music will be available.
