Harvard Scouts ‘Rise Against Hunger’
Harvard’s Senior/Ambassador Girl Scout Troop 30892 will host a meal-packaging event with Rise Against Hunger, a global program that provides meals to school lunch programs/hospitals and to victims of disasters. Residents are asked to donate funds to help purchase the meals. HAA basketball registration now open
Registration is open for the Harvard Athletic Association’s 2017-2018 basketball season. Programs are available for boys and girls in kindergarten through grade 8. The registration deadline is Oct. 20. Visit harvardbasketball.org for more information and to register.
Unicef boxes are here
Unicef boxes are being distributed again. Last Halloween Harvard’s children raised more than $1,500; this year the goal is to surpass that amount.
This program raises millions of dollars to help children around the world. This year it is helping hurricane victims in Puerto Rico and earthquake victims in Mexico. Small amounts of money can do a lot; as little as $28 provides a disaster relief kit with water containers and purification tablets.
Children in kindergarten through grade 8 may pick up a Unicef box and fill it with change between now and Halloween. Boxes are available in the HES and Bromfield offices, at the General Store, and at the library. Kids can collect change by asking family, friends, and neighbors to contribute. On Halloween, children should bring their boxes to the giant Unicef collection box at the General Store parking lot. Email hughsilk@yahoo.com with any questions. October is breast cancer awareness month
The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden Cancer Support Center invites cancer patients and/or family members to speak with its therapists and learn about its services.
For nearly 20 years, the nonprofit Healing Garden has provided an integrated approach to cancer, offering counseling, education, nutritional support, and exercise and wellness programs. Nearly half the services are offered free of charge, supported by generous donors.

NRWA online auction seeks donations
The Nashua River Watershed Association’s (NRWA) online auction begins Nov. 16 and ends Dec. 1. The auction provides a way for participants to do their holiday shopping while supporting the NRWA’s efforts to protect natural resources and provide environmental education programs in 32 watershed communities. Organizers would like donations of sport tickets, jewelry, electonics, professional services, and gift certificates. Donation deadline is November 1.
