On Sept. 4 Carol Lee Tonge of White Lane was honored with a Daily Point of Light Award (a national award) recognizing her service to Camp Sunshine, a camp in Casco, Maine, for kids with life-threatening illnesses. Tonge not only dedicates hundreds of hours each year volunteering at Camp Sunshine, but she also organizes fundraising initiatives and recruits groups of teenagers to volunteer at the camp. Each year Tonge organizes more than 35 teenagers and helps them get accepted as volunteers at camp. Over the past six years, she has helped the teens raise more than $100,000 for the camp through assorted fundraisers such as car washes, bake sales, polar dips, and clothing drives. Tonge is also an active member of Lions International.
