Ten traffic stops were reported during the week, which resulted in four citations, five verbal warnings, and one summons. This week police also assisted two motorists with disabled vehicles and helped another get into an inadvertently locked car. The ambulance crew responded to six medical emergencies and took two people to the hospital, one with Advanced Life Support on board. Six people refused medical treatment or transport to the hospital.
Tuesday, June 13
At 1:32 p.m. someone called to report a large tree branch in the roadway on Littleton Road. The Department of Public Works was dispatched to take care of it, and an officer directed traffic until the work was complete. A Myrick Lane resident called at 2:10 p.m. to complain about cars speeding on that road. Police say they have now scheduled radar assignments in that area. A Littleton Road resident called at 5 p.m. to report that a large amount of trash had fallen from a passing truck. When an officer arrived, he found that the truck driver had already returned to retrieve what was dropped. A Depot Road resident called at 5:51 p.m. to report a dead cat in the area. The animal control officer was notified, and the DPW was notified to remove the carcass.
Wednesday, June 14
Someone called at 8:48 a.m. to report being bitten by a dog on Abbot Lane. The caller was referred to the animal control officer. A resident stopped at the station at 10:06 a.m. to speak with an officer about a case of identity theft. Another resident stopped at the station at 11:29 p.m. to speak with an officer about a possible scam phone call. A motorist called at 1 p.m. to report that a large landscaping truck was blocking part of the roadway on Poor Farm Road. An officer went to investigate but determined the truck posed no hazard.
Thursday, June 15
At 9:56 a.m. police filed a criminal complaint against a former Trail Ridge Way resident after discovering that he had moved out of town without informing the Sex Offender Registry, as required by law. Someone called at 1:08 p.m. to report that a group of teens was causing a disturbance at the town beach. An officer went to the beach and determined that the youths were just playing in the water and were not causing a disturbance. At 1:25 p.m. a caller reported concerns about a dog in a crate in the back seat of a car parked at Rollstone Bank & Trust. An officer located the car and its owner and determined there was no issue with the dog. A caller reported at 3:05 p.m. that some youths were riding go-karts on Under Pin Hill Road near Lovers Lane. An officer located the kids and their parents and gave them a verbal warning about riding the vehicles on the roadway.
Friday, June 16
A motorist called at 6:04 a.m. to report colliding with a deer. The driver was not injured, but the car was towed. Police had to euthanize the deer. Someone called at 7:11 a.m. to report hearing gunshots in the vicinity of Ayer and Old Shirley roads. An officer went to the area but did not hear any gunshots. A patrol officer called the station at 2:20 p.m. to report that bushes on Lancaster County Road were blocking the line of sight on the roadway, and requested that the DPW be notified to trim them.
Saturday, June 17
At 2:50 p.m. a caller reported two small dogs running loose on Depot Road. The animal control officer was notified. Someone called at 6:46 p.m. with concerns about two suspicious-looking packages on the side of the road near the intersection of Slough and Woodchuck Hill roads. An officer went to the area and found two hiking bags, which were empty, in front of a house on Slough Road. The officer spoke with the owner, who said the bags had been put out there as giveaways. A Still River Road resident called at 10:10 p.m. to report hearing loud explosions nearby. An officer went to the area and did not hear any explosions, but police speculate the sounds could have been coming from Devens. At 11:42 p.m. a patrol officer stopped at the town beach to check on four youths who appeared to be hanging out there. The officer told them that no one is allowed to be there at night and sent them on their way.
Sunday, June 18
A Prospect Hill Road resident called 911 at 9:03 a.m. to report damage to a mailbox that occurred the previous night. A Littleton Road resident called 911 at 5:38 p.m. to report that his car had been stolen. Police determined that the vehicle had actually been repossessed, although the resident said he had not received any notification about it. At 9:40 p.m. a Craggs Road resident called 911 to report hearing gunshots nearby. An officer checked the area but heard no gunshots.
Monday, June 19
Someone called at 7:34 a.m. to complain about cars speeding on Still River Road. Police say that there are already frequent radar-monitoring assignments on that road. A motorist called at 7:52 a.m. to report being involved in a very minor accident at the Bromfield School. A motorist called 911 at 8:27 a.m. to report a two-car accident on Mill Road. Police say that a car was turning onto Mill Road from Ayer Road when the driver reached down to pick up something that had dropped and lost control of the car, which struck a car parked on Mill Road. There were no injuries, and no tow was required. The driver of the first car was cited for impeded operation of a motor vehicle. Someone stopped at the station at 2:31 p.m. to report losing a cellphone. At about 8:09 p.m. police received multiple calls about wires down and power out on Stow Road. National Grid was notified to fix the problem. Power was restored to the area by 10 p.m.
