A book group invitation to discuss race

June 8, 2017

As a member of Arm in Arm, I am writing to let you know about our first townwide book initiative. Arm in Arm’s mission is to promote understanding, awareness, and appreciation for all. And what better way to support this mission than connecting over a good book? When we connect with others to share ideas and opinions in thoughtful and considerate ways, we build a stronger, more inclusive community.

We’ll be reading “Waking Up White” by Debby Irving. We’ll learn from the author, ourselves, and our neighbors as we examine our own preconceptions and long-held notions about race.

We have a few dates in place already in Volunteers Hall at the Harvard Public Library:

  • Thursday, June 15, at 7 p.m.: Purchase the book for only $10, stay a while to chat, and enjoy some refreshments.
  • Thursday, July 13, and Thursday, Aug. 17, at 7 p.m.: Join us for conversation and share your thoughts about the book.

We hope to see you there!

Karen Johnson-Taylor, on behalf of
