Internship and service year opportunities with Sudbury Valley Trustees
Sudbury Valley Trustees (SVT) is offering summer internship opportunities to students seeking professional experience with conservation work. These positions are unpaid for 10 hours per week. SVT can work with colleges and universities to transfer time for academic credit. Visit www.svtweb.org for more information.
In addition, SVT will host three TerraCorps members during the 2017–18 service year. Part of the national AmeriCorps program, TerraCorps members spend 11 months at a nonprofit conservation organization. Celebration 2017!
You don’t need to be a parent of a Bromfield junior or senior to help with Celebration, the post-prom substance-free event, free to attendees, held at the Bromfield School with the aim of keeping prom attendees safe on what can be a dangerous night. Anyone who volunteers enters a raffle to win a $25 gift card to Carlson’s Orchards.

Sheriff’s office accepting applications for basic recruit training
The Worcester County sheriff’s office is accepting applications for individuals interested in a career as a correctional officer. Qualified applicants must have an associates degree or higher education, or documentation of 60 credits toward completion of a bachelor’s degree, or two years of military service. Applicants who meet the hiring standards will be invited to attend an informational session during June. Those selected for the basic recruit training will participate in a 12-week training academy and must take and pass a written exam, physical fitness test, background check, and psychological screening test.

Charter Commission to hold two public hearings
Come to comment, discuss, opine, or just learn more about the Charter Commission’s draft charter at public hearings, the first scheduled for Saturday, May 6, from 9 to 11 a.m. in upper Town Hall; coffee and donuts provided. A second hearing will be next Thursday, May 11, from 7 until 9 p.m., also in upper Town Hall. MassDOT Pay By Plate grace period reminder
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) reminds drivers without E-ZPassMA transponders who have been billed for travel on I-90 through the Pay By Plate system that they have until May 8 to take advantage of the E-ZPass “grace period.” More than 16,000 customers have already utilized grace period benefits.
The grace period allows a customer to pay their Pay By Plate tolls at the lower E-ZPassMA rate and receive a credit equal to the difference in the rates between the E-ZPass and Pay By Plate rates. Customers can do this by signing up for E-ZPass at at www.EZDriveMA.com after paying their bill in full.
