Littleton batters outgun Bromfield

May 18, 2017

The Littleton Tigers beat the Bromfield Trojans 3–1 in Harvard, Wednesday, May 10. The game began strong for Littleton, with three runs in the first two innings and no runs for Bromfield. Then the game flatlined, with neither team scoring until the last inning, when Bromfield got one run.

At the top of the first inning, Littleton sent two of its players home with one hit. Bromfield was unable to get any men on base. At the top of the second, Bromfield got the first two batters out, but allowed one run.

The score remained 3–0 until the seventh inning, when a hit put a Littleton player on second base with two outs. The next batter threatened to drive the runner home, but his hit was caught for the third out.

In the bottom of the seventh, Bromfield’s first batter struck out, but sophomore Kindred Atwood got a base hit. Next up was senior Scott Jarosz, who hit a double, sending Atwood to third base. With only one out and runners on second and third, a run for Bromfield seemed likely. Senior Sam Rosenfeld hit the ball and Atwood made it home just in time. But Rosenfield was tagged out before making it to first base.

With Jarosz on third base, and with two outs, Bromfield’s chances were still good. But the next hit was caught before Jarosz could make it home, and the game ended 3–1.

Bromfield had five hits in the game and Littleton had eight. Bromfield senior Ian Hanson was a strong player throughout the game, batting doubles in the fourth and fifth innings. Each team committed one error.

On Friday, May 12, the Trojans traveled to Oakmont Regional High School and lost 11–0. The next day, Saturday, May 13, Bromfield lost 6–2 at an away game against St. Bernard’s Central Catholic High School. At the end of the week, Bromfield’s overall record was 7–6 and its league record was 4–1.

The Bromfield varsity baseball team was scheduled for its next game on Tuesday, May 16, against Tyngsborough High School at home.
