The Bromfield girls track and field team placed first out of 20 teams with 130 points in the District E Class C meet this past Saturday, May 13, at Lunenburg High School.
Bromfield had a solid effort from all participants, who earned 14 medals toward the title. Junior Chloe Alfieri won Athlete of the Meet after winning gold in the 100-meter with 12.71 seconds, the 200-meter at 25.91 seconds, and the long jump with a distance of 16 feet 10 inches, earning 30 points for Bromfield. The relay teams were also successful. The 4×800-meter team of senior Hannah LoChiatto, senior Eva Tsun-Tsun, freshman Tess McClain, and eighth-grader Hannah Beckman placed a surprising third after being seeded sixth. The 4×400-meter team of seniors Sarah Doben, Maddie Steele, and Hannah LoChiatto, and eighth-grader Claire Stoddard placed first, beating Littleton’s team, which had previously dominated in this event. Bromfield’s 4×100-meter team of senior Sarah Doben, senior Natalie O’Leary, junior Anya Begue, and freshman Liza Toll took home first place to secure Bromfield’s overall win. Senior Maddie Steele, who placed second in the 400-meter hurdles, said the team was not expecting to win because it had lost to Littleton and Lunenburg in dual meets at the beginning of the season. However, Steele said, “Everybody showed up to run and had really good races to help us win.”

The Bromfield boys track and field team earned third out of 18 teams with 52 points in the District E Class C meet on Saturday at Shepherd Hill High School. Two Bromfield runners broke outdoor school track records at the meet. Senior Tristan Cronin ran the 400-meter in 51.45 seconds, earning him second place and breaking the previous record of 51.97 held by Patrick Griffin from 2013. Senior Jamie Barrett broke the 400-meter hurdles record with a time of 59.35. Jair Cruikshank held the previous record with a time of 59.91 from 2009. Senior Alec Jones was close behind Barrett with a time of 1 minute 15 seconds, earning him second place in the 400-meter hurdles. The boys pole vault team members each placed, earning Bromfield much-needed points. Barrett came in second with a vault of 12 feet; freshman Will Armstrong earned fourth place with 9 feet; and freshman Will Squire placed fifth at 9 feet. The 4×400-meter relay team is still working to break the school record but has not done so yet. Injuries have called for changes in the lineup. In this meet it was seniors Tristan Cronin, Jamie Barrett, Alec Jones, and junior Luke Jones who earned first in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:35.01 minutes.
Bromfield was scheduled to compete in the Mid-Wach League meet at Lunenburg High School on Wednesday, May 17, and Thursday, May 18, and has one more dual meet against Oakmont before the District E championships Saturday, May 27, at Westfield State.
