The Bromfield softball team lost to Littleton on Wednesday, May 10, 1–0, and to Oakmont on Friday, May 12, 5–0. They rebounded against North Middlesex on Saturday, May 13, trouncing their opponent 8–1, yet fell to Tyngsborough, Tuesday, May 16, 3–0.
On Wednesday, the Littleton Tigers beat the Trojans by one run, which was scored in the first inning. Littleton registered one hit for the afternoon, while the Trojans had three. As opposed to Littleton’s five-point lead in the two teams’ first game, in this game Bromfield closed the gap to one point.
On Friday, Oakmont scored its first run in the first inning and followed with four more in the second. Bromfield players went hitless and did not score, while Oakmont finished with five hits.
The Trojans made a comeback on Saturday against the North Middlesex Patriots. Bromfield plated a run in the first inning, two in the second, three in the fourth, and two in the fifth. The Patriots’ only run was scored in the third inning. Both teams finished with six hits, and junior Kiley Russell, the Trojan pitcher, struck out 15.
On Tuesday, Bromfield faced Tyngsborough at home. The Trojans’ opponent scored its first run in the first inning, then pulled ahead by another two in the seventh.
Yet the Trojans persevered throughout the afternoon. In the fourth inning, seniors Grace Barton and Liz Polimou each made two catches off high, curving hits and garnered two outs. Trojan sophomore Brynn Pierce hit a long, arcing ball across the field that got her a double at the bottom of the inning. At the bottom of the fifth, Barton attempted a bunt, but a Tyngsborough player caught the ball before it reached the ground.
Pitchers from both sides proved their skills throughout the game. Bromfield’s Russell struck out player after player with her powerful throws and prevented Tyngsborough from scoring in five innings. Tyngsborough junior Lia Nocella’s pitches stopped most Trojan batters from getting a hit. She struck out three in a row in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The team’s record stood at 2–3 in the league and 3–10 overall after Tuesday’s game. The Trojans’ next game was scheduled for Wednesday, May 17, against Clinton.
