Boys place third at league track and field meet

The Bromfield boys track and field team placed third at the Mid-Wach League Division D meet Friday, May 18, at Lunenburg High School. The Trojans earned 69 points, behind Lunenburg’s 123 and Clinton’s 93. Bromfield is in second place (2–1) in the league behind an undefeated Lunenburg team.

The Trojans had strong performances across the board with eighth-grader Jordan Colan winning the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.87 seconds and the 200-meter at 23.96 seconds. Senior Jamie Barrett continues to have a successful outdoor season after winning the pole vault at 12 feet 9 inches, breaking his previously set record of 12 feet 3 inches. Barrett finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with a tight finish at 16.54 seconds. Clinton junior Kobe Phetsomphou placed first in 16.33 seconds. Barrett finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.80 seconds, close behind Lunenburg junior Jake Netter at 59.43 seconds. Freshman Will Squire looked strong in the 800-meter but lost steam in the last 300 meters of the race, finishing sixth at 2:09.34 minutes.

Senior Tristan Cronin placed first in the 400-meter with 52.26 seconds. Cronin also anchored the 4×400-meter relay team, which finished first with no nearby competition at 3:43.92 minutes. Seniors Paul Chapman and Cole Stecyk and junior Luke Jones were also a part of the winning 4×400 team.

Bromfield was scheduled for one remaining dual meet against Oakmont Tuesday, May 23, at Oakmont Regional High School to be followed by the Central West Division 2 championships this weekend, May 27, at Westfield State.
