Burning season lasts a few more weeks
Open burning season, which is regulated by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and enforced by Harvard’s Fire Department, runs from Jan. 15 to May 1 each year. A valid permit obtained from the Harvard Fire Department is required. The fire chief reserves the right to deny burning on any day because of weather or environmental conditions. Permits are available online at massfire.net/brush/harvard.php or at Town Hall during normal business hours for a fee of $10 per year. Each day you wish to burn, you must activate your permit either online or by phoning 978-456-1212 between 9 a.m. and noon. Call Fire Chief Rick Sicard at 978-456-3648 with questions on open burning or the permit process.
Habitat for Humanity ReStore wants donations
Habitat for Humanity of North Central Massachusetts is looking for donations for its ReStore, located in Leominster, selling donated new and gently used furniture, home improvement materials, and building materials at a fraction of the original retail value. All profits go to support home ownership for low-income families, while keeping reusable materials in use and out of landfills. Since opening in 2011, the ReStore has diverted more than 1,000 tons of usable items. Donating gently used items to the ReStore helps change lives by making affordable home ownership a reality. If there are items you would like to donate, the ReStore is open Wednesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m and staff is available to help offload items. You can also call the store at 978.227.5556 or use the form at www.restorencm.org/donate to schedule a pickup for qualifying items.

Harvard Help needs help!
Harvard Help is a group of local volunteers that provides rides for residents who can’t drive, whether because of age, injury, or a car in the shop. It could happen to any of us! The group needs new volunteers to drive, take phone messages from riders, and keep the schedule log. If you might be interested in volunteering one day a month, come to a get-together with refreshments Thursday, May 4, 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Hildreth House.
