The Trustees of Reservations, Massachusetts’ largest conservation and preservation organization and the first land-preservation nonprofit of its kind in the nation, has named Guy Hermann as general manager for Fruitlands Museum and Greater Concord. Hermann will oversee day-to-day operations and management of a portfolio of Trustees’ natural and cultural sites, including Fruitlands Museum, the Old Manse in Concord, and Farandnear in Shirley.

“Guy is a highly accomplished museum planning and management professional who will bring a holistic approach to overseeing some of our most important and iconic sites,” said Joanna Ballantine, Trustees’ vice president, Western Region. “His diverse background also includes strategic planning, business and financial operations management, exhibition development, and program engagement.”
Before joining the Trustees, Hermann was the founder and principal of Museum Insights, a museum planning firm serving museums from the inception phase to capital improvement and transformation projects. One of the most notable projects was leading the initial planning 13 years ago for the Smithsonian’s newly opened National Museum of African American History and Culture. He has also consulted at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York; the New York Academy of Medicine on Fifth Avenue in New York City; the Flint Hills Discovery Center in Manhattan, New York; the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Hollywood, California; the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst; the Stephen F. Austin State Historic Site in San Felipe de Austin, Texas; and many others. Hermann was the director of museum planning at Verner Johnson Museum Architects and was chief information officer at Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic, Connecticut. He is a skilled writer, speaker, and educator, working as a grant writer and project director for the New England Foundation for the Humanities and as an adjunct professor of English for the University of Connecticut.
