When asked by Press reporter Marty Green about running for a fourth term, I indicated that I intended to run again but would step aside if someone else qualified stepped up to the plate. Two new candidates were nominated at caucus. One, Ed Moussouris, is new to Harvard and I do not know him. The other, Kara Minar, has many years of service to Harvard as a volunteer. As such, I have withdrawn my name as candidate for re-election.
It is encouraging to see new faces, and I hope Ed uses the upcoming election as an opportunity to get better known in Harvard. God bless him if he is successful, but if not, Ed should persevere. Many of us who have been on the Board of Selectmen ran once unsuccessfully.
I first met Kara before she was elected to the Planning Board. We have worked together on several projects, and I’ve enjoyed that. She listens to others, assesses each situation, and thinks for herself. If she is elected, Kara will work well with the other members.
Looking back at my nine years, being a selectman has been challenging yet fun. I thank the voters of Harvard for giving me this opportunity.
