The Board of Selectmen will interview three candidates—from a pool of 22 applicants—for the position of Department of Public Works director Friday, Feb. 3, at 8:30 a.m., according to Town Administrator Tim Bragan.

The posting for the public works director defined the job as “administrative and supervisory work related to directing the public works operations for the Town of Harvard.” At a Nov. 21 meeting, however, the selectmen voted unanimously to broaden the job’s responsibilities to include facility management. Bragan also described the job as including building maintenance responsibilities. In a related vote at that November meeting, the selectmen agreed to “immediately” hire administrative support for the future DPW director.
In an interview last week, Bragan said he was looking for a director whose experience would complement that of current foreman Gilbert. “So that there is no [job] duplication,” he added, by way of explanation.
The finalists were chosen by a selection committee consisting of Bragan, Human Resource Director and Assistant Town Administrator Marie Sobalvarro, Selectman Ron Ricci (as liaison to DPW), and acting DPW Director Ron Gilbert, who is also foreman and has been working at DPW for 15 years.
