Bands wanted for 4th of July celebration
Harvard’s 4th of July committee needs bands to perform at this year’s July 4th celebration at Fruitlands. If you’re in a band and are interested in performing at that event, send links for a few of your songs to sandrakimball@yahoo.com. The committee will reach out to the top contenders to play at the event.
League sponsors video contest
The League of Women Voters of Massachusetts invites students in grades 9 through 12 to enter its annual statewide video contest titled “Making Democracy Work in My Community.” The video can take a variety of forms: encouraging others to vote, educating the public about policy issues, speaking out against injustice, organizing community members, or fostering dialogue.
Put what you see into a two-minute video. First-place prize is $500; second place $250; and third place $100. Videos can be uploaded through March 31, 2017. There is no registration fee. For rules and to enter the contest, visit www.lwvma.org.
Workshops on federal student aid
Mount Wachusett Community College will hold special FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) workshops on Fridays at the school’s Gardner and Leominster campuses. These workshops will offer participants help with the completion of the 2017-2018 FAFS applications ahead of the state’s May 1 deadline. Workshops will run every Friday from 10 a.m. to noon on the Gardner campus at the Advising Center from Feb. 24 through April 28. Additional workshops will be held Feb. 24, March 10 and 24, and April 7 and 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. in Room 111 on the Leominster campus. Registration for each event and a list of pertinent documents that participants must bring are available online at calendar.mwcc.edu.
Want a shuttle to/from commuter rail station?
The Harvard Planning Board would like to assess the interest of residents in a potential shuttle service to and from one of two stations (Ayer or Littleton) on the MBTA’s commuter rail line. A seven-question online survey, available until March 17, has been designed to measure demand for this service. Take the survey at www.surveymonkey.com/r/GJKS6HL.
Volunteers needed for drama festival
The Bromfield School’s drama department is hosting the first round of the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild Drama Festival on Saturday, March 4, and needs to make the day run smoothly.
