Money for the grants is provided by the state. Each year the Massachusetts state budget funds the Massachusetts Cultural Council, which runs several arts and culture-related programs, including the Local Cultural Council grant program. The Harvard Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 local councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the state. The Harvard council administers the grant program for Harvard, bringing monies from the state budget to fund programs that directly affect residents. The Harvard council is a volunteer organization that operates both as a town committee and under the state council umbrella as a local council making decisions about which activities to support.
The Harvard Cultural Council will seek applications again in the fall. Information and forms are available online at www.massculturalcouncil.org. Applications will be due Oct. 16, 2017.
Additionally, the HCC is seeking Harvard residents who are interested in volunteering with the committee. Please contact Chairwoman Clerkin at lclerkin@gmail.com for more information.
