The library will host a talk by Kenneth Gloss, second-generation proprietor of Boston’s Brattle Bookshop, one of America’s oldest and largest antiquarian bookstores, Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. in Volunteers Hall at the library.
Gloss, a frequent guest appraiser on PBS’s Antiques Roadshow, will share anecdotes and will discuss the value of old and rare books, what makes a book increase in value, and the history of his shop, which dates back to the 1820s. Following the talk and a question-and-answer session, Gloss will offer free verbal appraisals of books that attendees have brought with them.
