If you have ever thought about how you can give back, make a difference, or work to see the town you want, bring a friend to nominate you and attend this year’s Harvard Town Caucus.
This year’s Town Caucus is significant in that, as a community, we get to nominate our neighbors for 20 open seats, including town moderator, two Board of Selectmen seats, two Planning Board seats, and many others. These are volunteer roles that will shape policy on our budget and spending, on how we use our lands, and on the major challenges Harvard faces in terms of municipal building project priorities and debt, land use and housing, and policy formation on Devens.
Harvard will hold its Town Caucus at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11. Local voting residents, regardless of political party, are invited to nominate their neighbors for local offices. The Harvard Press listed the open slots in town in last week’s edition. It’s an opportunity to participate in the governance of the town and contribute in a very real, grass-roots way to democracy in Harvard, Massachusetts, and the nation. The League of Women Voters of Harvard urges you to attend and participate in your local government.
If you miss the nominating event on Saturday, you can make a nomination by submitting a petition with 27 registered voters’ signatures by Feb. 14 to the town clerk.
